The Governor of Enugu state, PETER MBAH has inaugurated the Committee for the implementation of the New National Minimum Wage for Civil and Public Servants in Enugu State, giving the Committee a maximum of one month to submit its report.
Inaugurating the Committee yesterday at the Government House, Enugu, headed by the Head of Service, KENNETH UGWU, MBAH charged the committee to discharge its responsibility with maximum seriousness, reiterating his commitment to workers welfare.
Speaking on behalf of the Committee members, the Chairman and Head of Service, KENNETH UGWU, assured the governor that the committee would exceed his expectation both in terms of time frame and excellent delivery.
The Chairman of Trade Union Congress TUC, and member of the committee Comrade BEN ASOGWA, who spoke to newsmen after the inauguration, said Governor MBAH’s swift response did not come to Enugu workers as a surprise, as he had been paying wage awards to workers since 2023 and hes certain of the implementation of this New Minimum Wage.
Urban Radio Correspondent, IFEYINWA OGBUE, reports that other members of the committee include, representative of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, SANDRA GEORGE as Secretary; the Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development, NATHANIEL URAMAH; Commissioner for Labour and Employment, CHIKA UGWUOKE; Accountant General of the state, ANTHONY OKENWA as members, while on the Labour side were; the Chairman of the State chapter Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, FABIAN NWIGBO; Chairman, Public Service Joint Negotiating Council, EZEKIEL OMEH and Chairman of the state chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees, UDAYA ANI as members.
