President Bola Tinubu has promised that Nigeria will keep collaborating with its global partners to ensure that cyber criminals and organized crime groups engaged in international car thefts do not profit from their unlawful activities.
Tinubu, in a statement yesterday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, expressed concern over the involvement of transnational organised criminal groups in exporting stolen vehicles to Nigeria, directing all relevant agencies, especially the anti-corruption agencies to intensify efforts in cracking down on individuals in possession of and trafficking stolen vehicles.
The president, while acknowledging the recent handover of 53 vehicles and 180,300 dollars by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, RCMP, on behalf of two Canadian citizens who were victims of cybercrimes perpetrated by Nigerian nationals, maintained that Nigeria is neither a destination for stolen vehicles nor a safe haven for illicit wealth from other countries.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment in tackling money laundering, cybercrime, and other financial crimes in the country.
