The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU has asked President Bola Tinubu to change the newly assented Students Loans Act to grant for indigent students.

The National President of ASUU Professor Emmanuel Osodeke in a television interview yesterday said it would have been better if they are giving loans to those set of very poor students.

Osodeke stated further that the loan is impracticable and unsustainable adding that more than 90% of students won’t meet the stringent requirements to access and repay the loan.

The President last week Monday signed into law the Students Loans Bill in fulfillment of a promise he made during his campaign.

The bill was sponsored by the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, who is now the Chief of Staff to the president.
