The Government of Enugu State, under the administration of Governor Peter Mbah, says it will partner with the 17 local Government Council Chairmen in funding Capital Projects to be jointly executed between them, to speed up grassroots development, especially in the areas of agriculture, agro-allied industrialization, and critical infrastructure.

The state government made this known after the State Economic Planning Commission meeting at the Government House, Enugu, stating that the move was targeted at boosting the rural economy and creating job opportunities, and enhancing development activities in the rural areas, among others.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia said the Mbah administration was keen on having a progressive partnership with the local governments by providing matching funds for selected projects that align with the economic agenda of the state government.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ALGON in Enugu State Syndey Okechukwu Edeh, who commended the Mbah’s administration for the counterpart funding, said the partnership with the state government would help in the funding of priority projects that would touch the lives of the people.

Urban Radio Correspondent Ifeyinwa Ogbue reported that local government chairmen are expected to provide 300 hectares of farmland for the execution of the projects.
