The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has disclosed that an unauthorized oil connection was found on Saturday by a delegation sent by President Bola Tinubu to assess the oil theft situation in the Niger Delta.

NNPCL revealed that the country loses an average of 7.2 million dollars monthly from the illegal connection discovered in Owaza, Abia State, adding that underground refineries and the environmental devastation witnessed by the team translated into severe economic losses for the nation.

The delegation, led by the Minister of Defense Muhammed Baduru, has the service chiefs, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources on Oil Heineken Lokpobiri, and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources on Gas Ekperipe Ekpo as members.

The team visited the Trans-Niger Pipeline’s right of way in Owaza, Abia, where an array of dismantled illegal connections were observed.
