The Governor of Enugu state PETER MBAHhas assured that his administration will invest massively in the Sports Sector.

MBAH who gave the assurance over the weekend during the closing ceremony of the Enugu half marathon said the event would serve as an opportunity to discover young talents and for all sports lovers, as well as the elderly to keep fit and live a healthy lifestyle.

At the event which kicked off and was also concluded at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium organized by the Enugu State Ministry of Youths and Sports Development in conjunction with ZENITH BANK PLC, he added that the state saw sports as a business and source of wealth creation for the people.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, LLOYD EKWEREMADUexplained that part of the marathon’s goals was to continue to foster the culture of sports and fitness, which engenders healthy developmentand unity in the state.

The winner of the 21.79km Marathon, male category FRANCIS JAMES, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity given to him to shine.

The winners of the marathon, both male and female category, include JAMES, ISRAEL SADJO, NENFORT MATHIAS, PATIENCE DALYOP, AGOFURB CHARITY, andMUNIKAT EMMANUEL

Urban Radio Correspondent, IFEYINWA OGBUE, reports that the Highlights of the event were the presentation of prizes to the winners, both the male and female categories, where the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, positions received 1 million naira, 500,000 naira, and 300,000 naira, respectively, while Consolation prizes of 10,000naira, was given to 20 athletes who took 4th to 23rd positions.
