Taraba State House of Assembly has elected member representing the Zing constituency, John Kizito Bonzina, as the new Speaker, following the resignation Joseph Albasu Kunini yesterday.

Kunini, while reading his letter of resignation to members of house, said he is resigning for personal reasons and thanked members for their support and cooperation during his time as speaker of the house.

Speaking after his emergence as the new speaker, Bonzina, denied the allegation that a palace coup was staged by the members to remove the speaker from office, promising to work round the clock to build on the achievements of the former speaker.

Though no concrete reason was given for the former speaker’s resignation, it was gathered that his quest to stand solidly behind the parliamentary workers who have been demanding for their seven years unpaid outfit allowances necessitated his resignation as plans to impeach him were said to already in place.
