President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the 9th Assembly requesting the approval of restructuring of 23.7trillion Naira Ways and Means advances given to the Federal Government by the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN
The President, in a letter read by the President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan during plenary yesterday, explained that Ways and Means are advances from the CBN to the Federal Government for emergency funding of delayed receipt of fiscal deficit and the balances as of 19th December 2022 is 22.7 trillion.
He further stated in the letter that he has approved the securitization of the Ways and Means balances along the Amount of 23.7 trillion Naira; Tenure of 40 years; Moratorium on principal repayment; three years; Pricing interest rate of 9%.
Lawan forwarded the request to the Senate Committee on Finance for further legislative action and said the request and the 819.5 billion Naira supplementary budget would be considered and passed today alongside the 20.51 trillion Naira 2023 appropriation bill.
