The Telecommunications Operators in Nigeria have announced February 28, 2024, as the deadline to disconnect Subscriber Identification Modules, SIMs not connected to the National Identity Number.

The chairman Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria GBENGA ADEBAYO who confirmed this yesterday said the directive to deactivate SIMs not linked to NIN is from the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC.

The development came after the federal government issued several NIN-SIM linkage deadlines following the introduction of a SIM-NIN Linkage policy in December 2020 to curtail insecurity and enshrine sanity in the telecoms sector.

NCC said the number of telecom subscribers in Nigeria hit 220,715,961 million as of August 2023.
